A Calaveras County wildfire that crews are trying to gain control over has led to school closures Wednesday as smoke is affecting nearby air quality. Evacuations also remain in effect.
CAL FIRE reports that firefighters have stopped the fire's forward spread, with 15 percent containment achieved on the Manton Fire, which has burned 35 acres of vegetation. CAL FIRE says that crews will continue their work to strengthen containment lines and locate/extinguish any remaining hotspots in order to increase containment.
Containment grew Wednesday morning on a brush fire that started Tuesday afternoon near Pleasanton and Sunol in Alameda County, and all evacuation orders have been lifted, according to Cal Fire.
